RB Salzburg lost their lead in Group E to Chelsea London after a 1-1 draw at Dinamo Zagreb, but remains on course for the round of 16.
RB Salzburg are the leaders in the away game in Zagreb on the fourth day of the game. The Austrian series champion wanted to take another big step towards the round of 16 with another win against Dinamo. And the game started very well, as Seiwald gave Salzburg a 1-0 lead with a low shot in the 12th minute. In the 19th minute, a Zagreb goal was disallowed for a foul in the creation of the goal. Overall, the home side were now much better in the game and pressed for the equalizer. This was achieved shortly before the break by ex-Rapid player Robert Ljubicic, of all people, whose shot was deflected and was untenable.
Slat shots on both sides
At the beginning of the second half, the home side were the better and more active team. However, Salzburg recovered and kept creating good chances, especially through Sesko and Sucic. In the 74th minute, only the bar prevented Salzburg from making it 2-1 through Sucic. At the end of regulation time, the Red Bulls were lucky when the crossbar prevented a free kick from being conceded. In the end it remained 1-1, which meant that Salzburg had to give up the lead in the table to Chelsea London.
In the parallel game, Chelsea celebrated a 2-0 win at AC Milan. The Italians were outnumbered from the 18th minute after Tomori received a red card that was at least worthy of discussion. Jorginho converted the penalty to make it 0-1, Aubameyang made it 0-2 in the 34th minute.
Home draw for Dortmund
After the win in Seville, Borussia Dortmund wanted to secure a place in the round of 16 with another win in the second leg. However, the Spaniards were the better team in the first 20 minutes and took a 1-0 lead through Nianzou (18′). But Dortmund got back into the game and Bellingham equalized before the break (35′). In the second half, the teams largely neutralize each other. Lamela, who failed a Kobel in the 67th minute, had the best chance of a winning goal. In the end it remained 1-1, which meant Dortmund missed out on promotion to the round of 16.
In Group F, Shakhtar Donetsk missed out on the upset against Real Madrid when Rudiger headed in injury time to make it 1-1. In the second game, Timo Werner and Emil Forsberg shot RB Leipzig to a 2-0 away win at Celtic Glasgow. Real Madrid leads the table with ten points ahead of Leipzig with six and five points.
Early evening surprises
Already in the early evening there were two surprising results. Copenhagen drew 0-0 at home against big favorites Manchester City. The Danes benefited from a goal taken back, a missed penalty by Mahrez and a red card for Sergio Gomez (30′). Despite today’s draw, the English are still unbeaten and are therefore clearly on course for the round of 16.
For Juventus Turin it will be much more difficult to get into the next round. The Italians, who have also been weakening in the league recently, were surprisingly beaten 2-0 by Maccabi Haifa. Atzili (7th/42nd) scored the goals in the first half. Juventus are third in the table after four rounds with just three points, level on points with Haifa and already five points behind group runners-up Benfica Lisbon. After today’s 1-1 draw, Paris SG and Benfica Lisbon are at the top of Group H with eight points each.
