A nice breath of fresh air. A Ouistreham (Calvados), approximately 200 m separate the old and the new premises of the Caen-Ouistreham Plongée (COP) club. A very small move, even with fins on your feet, but a big change for the first diving club in Calvados (180 members).
“More modern, more comfortable”
For 32 years, the association stored its equipment in the bunker at the tip of the eastern breakwater of the outer harbor. From now on, it is in a part of the recent center of nautical activities of Ouistreham (CANO), that the club is installed.
It’s more modern, more comfortable and we are fully integrated into the Ouistreham nautical community.
“In the bunker, there was no longer any capacity for development and we were isolated. »
At CANO, in addition to local equipment, the COP can take advantage of meeting rooms and changing rooms. Incomparable conditions for carrying out all the association’s training sessions and a welcome shelter for putting on or taking off your wetsuit.
“Before, we undressed outside,” smiles Guillaume Le Blay, the former president. The latter remembers that it was the club’s volunteers who had fitted out this bunker on the Atlantic Wall in 1990. to arrange it. »
From Caen Diving to Caen-Ouistreham Diving
It was the redevelopment of the site and the construction of the wind turbine maintenance base that forced the club to move.
A bad thing – “the bunker was an emblematic site” – for a good thing for the forty-something association in 2022, which has also changed its name. Thanks to the reception at the CANO by the municipality of Ouistreham. “From Caen Plongée, we have become Caen-Ouistreham Plongée, it is also logical”, comments Adrien David.
