Athens’ moves against the escalation of Turkish challenges – News – news
Constant threats from Turkey. Through Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Through his far-right government partner, Devlet Bakhceli. Through Mevlut Cavusoglu. Via Hulusi Akar. The list is endless, while Ankara chooses to link with its extreme anti-Greek rhetoric and the question of Greece’s alliances in order to attack everyone, as it considers them to stand against its claims.
On Tuesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu made sure to return to threats, recalling the Asia Minor Disaster. He described Greece as pathetic because it “goes to other countries to cry and beg”, while he also insisted on Turkey’s claims of violation of treaties by Athens.
He also repeated Ankara’s claim that Washington has its balance, wrongly characterizing the US as tipping the scales to one side. As for whether Turkey will declare war on Greece, Cavusoglu repeated Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s statement that “we will come again one night”.
Erdogan’s far-right partner, Devlet Bakhceli, also launched an attack against Greece, this time putting Greece’s natural gas and energy security on the table.
Composure
For its part, Athens insists on underlining the need for calm more than ever.
Competent sources acknowledged that the situation with Turkey is not good, however, underlining the need to keep the tone – as difficult as it is – low.
On Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, had a meeting with the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Panagiotopoulos at the Pentagon, with the aim of informing about the meetings he had in Egypt and Malta, as well as about the next diplomatic initiatives that Athens is going to undertake. Dendias and Panagiotopoulos are on the open line since Turkey’s moves force the armed forces to be on constant alert. With their meetings becoming more frequent and regular.
CYSEA
On Wednesday, the Governmental Council on Age and Security (KYSEA) is not meeting either, with the agenda of Greece-Turkey relations, while it is possible that equipment issues will also be discussed.
Not present at KYSEA are Nikos Dendias, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, as well as the Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos. At the center of the “belligerent climate” as shaped by Turkey’s crescendo of statements, with Erdogan setting the tone for the threats and inflammatory rhetoric.
New agreement between Turkey and Libya
The new Turkish-Libyan memorandum must also be put on the table, as well as the achievements that Ankara can try to impose through it.
It is worth noting that during the visit of Nikos Dendias to Egypt on Sunday, the issue of Libya was the first topic on the agenda. With Athens and Cairo they do not underline that the Dbeiba government does not have the jurisdiction and legitimacy to bind the country to long-term agreements, it also reminds that its term has expired.
Cypriot
The Cyprus issue is not missing from the agenda, since November 15th and the moves that Ankara will attempt in the occupied territories, on the anniversary of the declaration of the pseudo-state. It is recalled that the occupying leader, Ersin Tatar, has already announced that on November 15 the new illegal Ercan Airport will be inaugurated.
The goal of an international flight seems to be from Moscow, which, however, is not achieved.
According to the current leaks – information – published by the Turkish media on November 15, Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also not in the occupied territories, with the news yet to be confirmed.
Diplomatic and military sources underline that Athens is monitoring all developments and remains on the lookout for any eventuality, however it does not have the proposal to be the one to “pull the trigger”. The opposite.
For Athens, after all, the threefold deterrence, alliances and international law remain.
