The city of Salzburg is considering giving up hot water in schools
The city is now causing a stir with an announcement: How to die Salzburg news report in their Saturday edition that the hot water is also to be turned off in schools and kindergartens to save energy. The only exceptions are special schools and the changing areas of kindergartens.
“Let the children who have just come in from outside wash their hands with cold water for a few minutes,” worry excited parents who cannot imagine how, for example, fingers soiled with paint can be cleaned without hot water.
No more hot water in all municipal buildings
The specification comes from the construction department. Accordingly, there could soon be no more hot water for all municipal buildings. Cleaning work can then only be carried out with cold water. Critics fear that more chemicals will be used. There was a lot of excitement on social media over the weekend.
The responsible city councilor for construction, Martina Berthold (citizen list), who will move to the state government in November, emphasizes that no decision has yet been made. Departments can still announce a veto until mid-October. Berthold: “There will certainly be no children in Salzburg who will have to freeze.” When washing with cold water and soap, the same results can be achieved in view of the risk of germs, according to the city councilor. The federal government has asked the city of Salzburg to reduce energy consumption by eleven percent.
