Diogo Piçarra, mentor of “The Voice Portugal”, alerts competitors to reality: “When it ends there are not many hands to cling to”
Diogo Piçarra, mentor of “The Voice Portugal” for four editions, says he always warns competitors that there aren’t “many hands to cling to” after finishing the exposure they have in the talent program. “The program is good, there will be a lot of exposure, but as soon as it ends, everything starts. There are a lot of people who don’t even hear me well, that goes in at 100 and goes out at 200, but it’s very important to understand this”, said the artist in an interview with the Posto Emmissor podcast.
“I always try to alert them to reality, above all”, originates Piçarra, after saying: “when we don’t turn our chair, we have the need to, at least, give a word or an opinion. ‘Look, I didn’t come back because I felt nervous or nervous, with receiving you, you stuttered there a little’… I don’t know. Sometimes, not turning around seems unfair to those who are there, but it is fair to those who passed. It’s giving the opportunity to those who were really more prepared and less nervous”.
The musician, who achieved this program after winning another talent show, “Ídolos”, in 2012, also explains: “I have always loved being part of this type of program because I was born in one of them and I loved being on the other side. Even more, ‘The Voice’ has this format where we are really mentors, we are not just judges”.
“We accompany, we choose songs with them, we make arrangements, we even have to produce a song for one of the contestants, I did the instrumental and everything. It’s something that I really feel complete doing”, he concludes. Listen to Diogo Piçarra’s descriptions of “The Voice Portugal” from 1 hour, 8 minutes and 53 seconds of the Posto Emissor episode.
