VILLENEUVE-LEZ-AVIGNON The Chartreuse celebrates architecture from October 14 to 16
From October 14 to 16, the Charterhouse of Villeneuve-lez-Avignon celebrates architecture, and more specifically the theme of borders. The monument team wants the public to go beyond geographical, social, material or sensitive limits to question the spaces we inhabit and which inhabit us.
” “Architecture en fête” pendant, there will be proposals for everyone. We can stay from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.», assures Marianne Clévy, the director of the Chartreuse. Young audiences and families could defy the laws of gravity by building a giant Kapla® set, with the help of Guillaume Heslot. Or could they open up to other perspectives guided by wool and fabric lines and the know-how of the MaOM (Maison de l’architecture Occitanie Méditerranée) stakeholders? Or will they let themselves be tempted by the “Morphosis” experience in the small cloister and try to build a participatory structure using bamboo canes? Like a hut that the little ones could cross, climb or contemplate. For young and old, the opportunities to ” make the imagination work and put into practice their talents as builders for a day are numerous, indicate the director.
Through this diverse and open program, she and her teams wanted to place “ expertise within everyone’s reach (…) to bring in high-quality people and put them at the service of others“. They worked with the CAUE (Councils of architecture, town planning and the environment) of Gard and Hérault to knit these three days of celebration. The official inauguration will take place on Friday, October 14, at 6 p.m., in the presence of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs of Occitanie (DRAC).
In the footsteps of Le Corbusier’s journey
The public will be able to discover a preview of the exhibitions installed for “Architecture en fête”, in particular “Espaces” in partnership with the artistic residence Échangeur22 located in Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres. Will also be visible “Voyage d’Orient 2.0, in the wheel of Le Corbusier” where we are immersed in the cycling journey of Benjamin Revire (from the CAUE Hérault) and Simon Billaut in the footsteps of the mythical journey of the architect made between 1910 and 1911 from Berlin to Istanbul. We discover photos and sketches of places that have remained the same, of emblematic architectures or landscapes totally transformed in 100 years.
On the evening of the inauguration, at 8:15 p.m., the 2020 documentary “I liked living there” directed by Régis Sauder, also director of Culture and Heritage at Cergy, will also be screened. City where Annie Ernaux, who has just been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, wrote most of her work. The session will be preceded by the debate “The new city and today? at 7:30 p.m. Also not to be missed is the screening of Jacques Tati’s unmissable film “Mon oncle” on Saturday October 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Soon, the pillar writers of the Chartreuse to listen to during the visit…
These three days of celebration are also an opportunity to bring back key writers from the Chartreuse for carte blanche. Indeed, Pascal Quignard will share his own vision of the monument during a visit where he will be the guide, on Sunday at 11am. And if you can’t come, don’t worry: this performance will be available for audio listening on a future mobile application planned for the spring. All you have to do is scan the QR codes distributed in the Chartreuse to hear it. We will also find Pascal Quignard on Sunday at 3 p.m. for a musical reading entitled “Ruines”, by the piano accompanied by Aline Piboule.
In another register, there will also be a “unguided” visit given by the actor, author and director Bertrand Brossard on Saturday at 3 p.m. With talent and humour, he will lead a true-false visit to the monument where we will learn more about its hidden undersides. And on Saturday, from 3:30 p.m., six graduate students from the National School of Architecture in Montpellier and the Occitanie Order of Architects will talk about their end-of-study architectural project in 360 seconds. On the same model as the “My thesis in 180 seconds” competition. In short, you have understood the program is dense and prefaces a busy year 2023 since we will then celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Villeneuvois national center for show writing. An anniversary year in which the teams continue their work of renovating the first floor, making it accessible for people with reduced mobility and updating the visitor route.
