Sadio Mane is crying because he had to go to FC Red Bull Salzburg – football
Sadio Mane is now a world star!
For years he dribbled knots in the legs of his opponents in a Liverpool FC shirt, he has been chasing goals for FC Bayern Munich since the summer and, after a brilliant start and a small slump, he wants to prove his quality in the Bundesliga hit at Borussia Dortmund (from 1 6:30 p.m. in the LIVE ticker).
The now 30-year-old Senegalese made his big breakthrough at FC Red Bull Salzburg, where Mane didn’t want to go at all, as he reveals in an interview with “RMC Sport”. Because actually he is very comfortable with Metz in the second French league.
“I really wanted to stay there. It was my first professional club. I remember that the Austrian club made an offer. Bernard Serin replied: ‘If you want him, you would have to pay four million euros.’ He didn’t think a player from the second division was worth so much,” says Mane about the Australian Metz president, who didn’t even begin to believe that Salzburg would really put the millions on the table.
“I cry like a little child because I had to go to Austria”
But it did, and Mane burst into tears. “I didn’t want to go, but I had to. I was asked to do so and I’m crying. I still remember it like it was yesterday: I’m crying like a little child because I had to go to Austria. I didn’t know the language, I didn’t know the people. Metz was my second home. That was hard,” said Mane.
After scoring 45 goals in 87 competitive games for the Bulls, Mane moved on to Southampton (75 games, 25 goals) in 2014. His further path via Liverpool (269 games, 120 goals) to Bayern (13 games, 7 goals) is well known.
