Portugal hosting the biggest LGBT+ event in Europe
The associations ILGA Portugal, Variações, rede ex aequo and AMPLOS submitted an application to organize EuroPride in Lisbon in 2025 and the proposal was approved this Saturday by a majority by the members of the EPOA – European Pride Organizers Association.
It is Lisbon that will host the EuroPride in three years’ time, which “will be a great moment of celebration of LGBTI visibility”, Ana Aresta, co-organizer of the initiative, revealed to the Lusa agency on Saturday.
In Lisbon, EuroPride will take place from June 14 to 21, 2025, coinciding with the city’s popular festivals and the traditional Pride festival.
“We are talking about an event that receives many thousands of people from all over the world and it will be a moment for Portugal to prove that it is in the first position of human rights and in the promotion of security contexts and underlined Ana Aresta.
ILGA Portugal explained that the president of the budget for an organization of this initiative will be around one million euros, and how four organizing entities expect the involvement of the Lisbon municipality, Turismo Portugal, private partnerships, sponsorships and donors.
According to the application file submitted, a youth meeting, a conference on rights, film screenings and an exhibition. A letter of support for the event was included in the proposal by the editorial staff of Estado e Migrações, Isabel Rodrigues.
Ana Aresta considers that the role of the Government is “fundamental”, as well as the support of the Presidency of the Republic, for the realization of the event.
In the application dossier presented, the four Portuguese associations emphasize that the concept underlying EuroPride 2025 is “Orgulhosamente Vós”, subverting the dictatorial regime motto of the Estado Novo “Proudly alone”.
“LGBTI+ changes are distinguished by excellence only in contexts of shame and, therefore, this message reinforces this message with emphasis on the only ones we celebrate exclusively in Ana Aresta’s highlights.
This was the second time that Portuguese associations had submitted an application to the organization of EuroPride.
According to the EPOA, in the race to organize EuroPride 2025 there were applications from Lisbon and Magdeburg, Germany.
