Wind and water go together in Renewable Norway
The boards of Norwea and Energi Norge are the only ones to establish a new major interest organization for renewable energy in Norway. Renewable Norway will become part of NHO.
Norwea and Energi Norge started talks before the summer about forming Fornybar Norge – a new, large interest organization for renewable energy in Norway. The boards are now unanimous on the main principles for Renewable Norway and recommend that the association be established.
– The new organization will accommodate the entire range of actors in the renewables industry and be a crystal clear voice for a more aggressive investment in Norway. Renewable Norway must give clear advice to politicians and be a driving force for restructuring and positive social development. We will set the agenda and stand up for an energy policy that contributes to value creation, cuts emissions and ensures a green change of pace for the good of both industry, consumers and the environment, say Knut Kroepelien, CEO of Energi Norge and Åslaug Haga, CEO of Norway in a joint press release.
Wind and hydropower
The boards of Energi Norge and Norwea have separately discussed proposals for the organizational model, political platform, articles of association and purpose.
Norwea is an interest and industry organization that promotes wind power, both onshore and offshore. It currently has over 110 member companies and represents the entire value chain in wind.
Energi Norge Energi Norge is a nationwide interest and employer organization for companies that produce, transport, deliver and build infrastructure for renewable energy in Norway. This applies to companies whose main business is producing and supplying electricity from Norwegian hydropower plants.
Energi Norge currently has 332 member companies and represents just under 15,000 man-years. 90 percent of Norwegian electricity and network customers today receive delivery from an Energi Norge company.
New organization ready from the turn of the year
Energi Norge and Norwea will now call their members to extraordinary general meetings, where the final decisions will be made. Given that both general meetings support the creation of Fornybar Norge, the plan is for the association to be operational from 1 January 2023.
– We have a common understanding of the need for more renewable energy, and that contributions from all technologies and a good power grid are needed to meet this. The board’s proposal also shows a broad consensus on what the new association should be. If the general meetings say yes, then the new organization should be up and running quickly, say Haga and Kroepelien.
Cooperation with several organisations
Renewable Norway will become part of NHO. The new organization will offer membership for the entire value chain within renewable energy – including advisers and suppliers. Renewable Norway will also seek a closer and more formalized collaboration with other associations in the renewable area, the press release states.
