Genoa – Only 27.8% consider logistics to be professionally attractive, a percentage that sees it confined in the last position compared to an industry such as fashion & luxury (40.9%), tourism, accommodation and catering (33.3%) and commerce (32 ,2 %).
Although these data show that the port logistics sector is the rear in terms of attractiveness, however the sector is recording a continuous growth in the demand for personnel from companies.
Positive trend that has had a strong surge starting from 2020, thanks to the pandemic and eCommerce, such as to make the sector a futureproof industry.
This growth also in the area of digitization influences, therefore, the evolution of the professional profiles and skills of the people who work in this area.
These are the themes at the center of the conference entitled: “The evolution of port logistics: value chain, skills, people” organized by Gi Group, Assiterminal, Fedespedi, Assagenti and ALIS – in progress this afternoon – 5.30 pm at the Aquarium of Genoa – Biodiversity Pavilion, in the presence of the mayor Marco Bucci and the extraordinary commissioner for the reconstruction of the Port of Genoa Umberto Benezzoli.

They will also analyze the strategies that companies can adopt to compete in a market increasingly characterized by skills shortages.
“How do the skills and business models that affect the world of port logistics change? From this question arises the idea of comparing ourselves with guests and experts in Genoa, the emblematic city of this sector in Italy. – comments Michele Savani, Gi Group Logistics Division Manager – The logistics sector is an articulated ecosystem, which must in fact be discovered by going into the details of the dynamics and needs of each specific cluster and each specific territory, and which must be valued in the eyes of candidates and workers, making them known the economic value and above all the digitization and automation trend that characterizes it, generating interesting and unprecedented professional opportunities. From a survey conducted by Gi Group in schools of different grades throughout Italy, it emerged that the word logistics is still associated by candidates with words such as transport (23.9%), organization (10.9%) and warehouse. (10.3%), but knowing more from this neighboring world, we discover how much more wealth there is in this sector ».
In the increasingly complex challenge of talent Attraction, in a labor market characterized by a high skill mismatch, employer branding and sector promotion activities become crucial for the competitiveness of a rapidly growing and evolving sector “
On the basis of Gi Group’s activities at a local level – it is present with branches in Liguria – and of the comparison with associations and HR, three issues emerge that affect the sector: the digital transition, the lack of skills of workers in force and one skill shortage related to more junior candidates. “From a first survey carried out in recent months, a demand emerges for figures linked to the digital transition: figures of Business Analysts, Process Planning and Optimization Manager, Data Managers, Software Developers and Business Developers are increasingly sought. But also more characterizing profiles for the port logistics sector and what revolves around it: Port Crane Operators, Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Operators, Machinists, Yard and Quay Operators, Customs Dealers, Freight Forwarders, “- explains Giovanna Parodi, Expert Sales Account of Gi Group and reference for the Logistics Division Gi Group for Liguria.
