Saving energy: No ice skating rink for Europark
Business
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary, the manager of the Europark shopping center in Salzburg-Taxham is concerned with the current economic situation with rising energy prices and inflation. Saving energy is therefore a big issue – so there is no ice skating rink this winter.
The company has already saved 40 percent of its energy consumption in recent years, the Europark managers emphasized on Thursday – with lighting technology and a system that regulates the temperature with fresh air.
Facades dark earlier, Christmas lights remain
The fact that there will be no ice skating rink this year will also save as much energy as 15 to 20 years of Christmas lights, said the Europark management. In the future, the lighting on the facades will also be switched off in the evening one hour after shopping closes.
However, the shopping center is sticking to the Christmas lights, emphasized center manager Manuel Mayer: “The Christmas lights are an important part of the Christmas business. You also have a great deal of responsibility for the retailers here – they also know how important Christmas sales are. In any case, we will optimize the lighting times. We have the latest technology with LED lamps in house. A lot of screws are turned here. But the atmosphere and the feel-good ambience are important to us.” This lighting only accounts for 0.1 percent of the energy consumption.
Management demands renewed Europark expansion
The Europark manager is also calling for the shopping center to be expanded on the occasion of the 25th anniversary. So far, this expansion, in which the previous storage areas are to be converted into sales areas, has failed due to the resistance of the Green Deputy Governor Heinrich Schellhorn. The shopping center should hold its own against online giants and needs expansion, the managers emphasized again on the occasion of the 25th anniversary.
