This is how Tyrol’s top candidates spend “Day X”
The top candidates of the Greens and Neos have already voted by post. The others go to the ballot box on Sunday. And then?
September 25th, “Day X” for the top candidates in the Tyrolean state elections. After courting for the voters’ favour, the verdict is due. The frontmen spend the day of the decision unspectacularly and with their families. The top candidates of the Greens and Neos have already voted by post. The others – accompanied by the media – go to the ballot box on Sunday. Another fixed point: the election celebrations in the evening.
Tyrol’s ÖVP chairman and top candidate Anton Mattel will, as always, start the election Sunday in his home town of Galtür as an early riser. The sports-loving Mattle usually sets out for a jog at 5:00 a.m., including on Sundays. A hearty breakfast follows before the black frontman – it’s still early in the morning – WILL go to the ballot box. Then “time with the family” is scheduled before Mattle will finally make his way to the country house in Innsbruck. The “election celebration” will be held by the Tyrolean ÖVP in the Innsbrucker Arkadenhof on Maria-Theresien-Strasse, diagonally across from the Landhaus.
Commuting between election party and country house
SPÖ regional party chairman takes over as mayor of Sellrain George Dornauer also as polling officer and will therefore be in the polling station until it closes at 1 p.m. Dornauer will choose at 7:00 a.m. in the Sellrain elementary school immediately after the polling station opens. The red top candidate will look at the first extrapolation in the party house, from 6 p.m. Dornauer will “shuttle back and forth” between the election party in the Hotel Sailer and the country house, it was said.
FPÖ state party chairman Markus Abwertger wants to spend the election day with his family, around noon he will fill out and hand in the ballot paper in his residential community Axams (district Innsbruck-Land). According to the first projection, Abwerzger is expected in the Landhaus, only then does he go to the blue election party in the Orangery of the Innsbruck Congress. As is the tradition of the FPÖ, the party then plants a “blue Monday” on which there are no committee meetings.
The green top candidate Gebi Mair already voted by post in the Innsbruck town hall on Tuesday. As a result, press spokesman Sebastian Miller said he would be very “relaxed” about election day. Mair will spend the morning with his friend on the mountain and come to the green office in the early afternoon. The top candidate WILL follow the first extrapolation in Innsbruck’s Glasmalerei restaurant – where the election party WILL also take place. Afterwards, Mair will come to the country house.
Also Neos top candidate Dominik Oberhofer cast his vote by postal vote in Innsbruck last Friday. On Sunday he will attend the electoral commission in Mils (District Imst). Austria’s first pink mayor, Markus Moser, ruled there until the mayoral elections in February. Oberhofer will spend the afternoon with his family. The pink election party is taking place in the Paninothek restaurant on Innsbruck’s Boznerplatz.
“Sleep in late and have breakfast with the family”
“Sleep longer and have a leisurely breakfast with the family” became the Fritz front woman on the election Sunday Andrea Haselwanter-Schneider. After that, she will go to the ballot box with her husband and two adult sons in Oberperfuss (district Innsbruck-Land), later have coffee with friends and go out to eat with the family in the early afternoon. In the party office, she then eagerly awaits the first projections with her party colleague, Markus Sint, second in the state list. The party will end the election evening in the “La Trattoria” restaurant on Innsbruck’s Sparkassenplatz.
Also MFG top candidate Elfriede Hörtnagl-Zofall spends Sunday with her family. They will get up early and then probably go for a run, save the animals on their farm and, after a morning breakfast together, cast their vote in their home community of Kematen (district of Innsbruck-Land). In all probability, she will wait for the election result in the country house. The MFG will gather from 4 p.m. in the “Sandwirt” restaurant in Innsbruck.
