Innsbruck honorary citizenship
“I am the first and only graduate of my generation in my family, both on my father’s side and on my mother’s side. Being able to follow this educational path involved a lot of sacrifices on my part and on the part of my parents, so I’m happy to have them Honorary citizenship of the University of Innsbruck to be awarded” commented Sabine Gruber the academic recognition that will be officially awarded to her in a few weeks. On October 15th, the day of academics, she received honorary citizenship at a ceremony in Innsbruck.
Each year are referred to on This Academicus of the University of Innsbruck recognized personalities from the individual areas of society – for several years also young researchers. In addition to Sabine Gruber, the South Tyrolean governor will also be appointed Mag. iur. Arno Kompatscher one of the honorees be. He will receive the at Dies Academicus 2022 honorary senatorship.
For someone like me, this is not a matter of course. I haven’t forgotten where I come from. And I also know that for the training – unfortunately! – still makes a difference, which social class you come from.

“I found the studies in Innsbruck and Vienna to be liberating”, When asked about her own student days, the well-known writer remembers “I was finally able to devote myself to these areas of science that had always interested me. And I met colleagues with similar interests and preferences, which strengthened my literary and literary studies work.” And a career at university? She once worked in an academic capacity “four years as a lecturer at the University of Venice”, she tells, and “In the 2020/21 semester she also gave a poetry lecture at the University of Duisburg/Essen” present. A possible career as an academic was never an option for Gruber. “I took a close look at the university, the hierarchical structures, the bureaucracy,” notes them slightly critically and adds: “In addition, I found it difficult to do group work at school, I am too impatient, stubborn, and prefer to work alone. In this respect, it was only right to take the freelance path, so I could and can be active as a writer and literary scholar.”
Her volume of poetry was recently published I live best if I make it up. journal poemsthe next novel will be out in autumn 2023. “As a university employee, I would not have been able to do that in the time available,” says the new honorary citizen of the University of Innsbruck.
