Fehervar celebrates its EBEL/ICEHL anniversary! – Hockey-News.info – All news about national and international ice hockey
September 21, 2007 – then the start of the season in the multinational league now known as the win2day ICE Hockey League. For the first time with a representative from Hungary: Hydro Fehérvár AV19 celebrated its league debut exactly 15 years ago today. The team from Székesfehérvár had to learn a lot from the premiere and then for several seasons. In the previous year, however, the troop traditionally known as the “Red Devils” celebrated their greatest success.
Palkovics, Ocskay & Co relocated to Innsbruck on September 21, 2007. Hydro Fehérvár AV19 made its league debut at HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie. The premiere was by no means successful: After eight minutes, the Hungarians were 0:2 behind and conceded both goals while being outnumbered. A little later it was Michal Stastny who scored the first league goal for the “Red Devils”. The first goal didn’t give a boost, four goals conceded in a row and finally a clear 2:7 defeat had to be accepted.
Palkovic’s hat-trick secures first league win
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 had to wait a very long time – almost a month and a half, or 15 games – for their first league win. On November 2nd, the time had come: Kristijan Palkovics redeemed the Hungarians with a hat-trick in a 3-2 home win over Villach. It was the first of a total of five AVS victories in the inaugural season.
Two seasons later (09/10) the Hungarians make the playoff for the first time. But there was not more than an overtime win in the opening match against the spusu Vienna Capitals. The team from Szekesfehervar then expects five more postseason appearances – these appearances also end in the quarterfinals.
21/22 was the best season so far
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 had by far their best playing time last season. With 27 wins from 48 games, the Hungarians made it into the playoffs as third in the regular season. There they only had to admit defeat to EC Red Bull Salzburg in the final. Nevertheless, the runner-up title and the actual qualification for the Champions Hockey League remained.
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 has now played 824 games, winning 369 of them.
