The adventure of the “Les Petits Zecolos” books is taking a new turn. Their author and illustrator, Cécile Miraglio, opened her shop in downtown Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, place Victor-Basch, on September 1st.
On the shelves, visitors might find his famous collection of insect books. The Garden of Juliette and Josephine“, but also other books, games, pencils, watercolors and other gift ideas for all budgets. ” I wanted a shop where the items are made as much as possible in Europe, with good quality“says Cécile Miraglio.
The change of life of the Villeneuvoise, a graphic designer by training, began three years ago, when she left her job and cherished the dream of becoming a children’s illustrator. The opportunity arises when his daughter asks him for a book in cursive letters (handwriting attached, editor’s note) which ” would limit dyslexia problems”, she says. Impossible to find a book when the mother decides to create it. But on what theme? ” One day my daughter got stung by a wasp and thought it was a bee. I said to myself: it is not possible that Juliette makes this mistake when we spend our time outside“, she says. His first opus of the “Jardin de Juliette et Joséphine” (named after his two daughters aged 9 and 5, editor’s note) is therefore entitled “L’Abeille” and tells in text and images the properties and the importance of this pollinating insect.
“These little beasts are essential to our own lives”
” In my books, I want to explain the function of each insect in our ecosystem. People are often very afraid of insects when we are very dependent on them. These little beasts are essential to our own lives, we will no longer be able to feed ourselves if they disappear. So to be less afraid of them, you must already know them better. If we know how to explain their role, we will take a different look“, reasoned Cécile Miraglio. Since then, his literary bestiary has grown considerably. The ladybug, the dragonfly, the dung beetle, the cicada and finally the gendarme all had the right to their calligraphic book. All printed in France of course. The author has even published a memory game on the theme of insects.
Faced with the growing success of her books, Cécile Miraglio needed more space to work. She is therefore delighted to have invested in this room where she also organizes workshops with the children from December.
