After two days, AG Caen (B) is leader of group C of Regional 3, tied on points with Verson (B) and Bessin Nord. Only these three teams have won their first two games. Interview with the coach of theAvant-gardeGregory Hue.
Grégory, your team largely dominated AS Saint-Vigor (0-8), Sunday September 18, 2022. What do you remember from this great success?
We were in the continuity of what we had been producing for a few weeks now. Although, with four goals scored, we were effective in front of goal, our first half was not exceptional. Faced with a very low opposing block, we lacked rhythm, conviction and desire. In our content, many things were not yet present. The second period was better. We have finished the job well. AS Saint-Vigor was an opponent in reconstruction, coming out of a heavy defeat against Bayeux FC (8-0). It’s up to me to be demanding.
This success follows the inaugural one against the promoted Hastings Rots. Do you consider the reception, in 15 days, of USI Bessin Nord, which also remains on two consecutive victories, as the first shock of your season?
It will be a first big test, but another awaits us, this weekend, against Regional 1 of US Alençon. It will be a way of situating ourselves. USI Bessin Nord already has two victories in as many contested days. Including one against Bayeux FC (B). It’s up to us to score as many points as possible. We will know where we are before moving to AS Verson (B). Beating the Hastings Rots at home wasn’t easy. Just like dominating AS Saint-Vigor away from home. There are, however, positive things.
“We are able to score at any time”
What goals have you set for this new season?
AJS Colleville-Ouistreham but, above all, FC Thaon-Bretteville are the big favorites in the championship. I see us more as strangers. We must be within reach of the top of the table and, why not, win the bet at the end of the championship. Our offensive potential means that we are able to score at any time. We still have to work on our defensive block to gain consistency, but we know how to play on foot. I’m lucky to have a diligent, hard-working and attentive group. With all the changes we went through this summer, there is a group to create but things are working pretty well. National 3 players who go down to Regional 3 play the game.
The numbers of the reserve teams are often dependent on those of their first team. Do you manage, however, to field a stable group every weekend?
With Felix [Legras], who managed the recruitment because I took on the dreams of the team very late this summer, we wanted to create a team that is able to live on its own. We have provided a cohesive core that players returning from National 3 come to enrich. Having just won my BEF, I aspired to see higher. From then on, I could either coach a good level team, or I could participate in the progress of an ambitious team. AG Caen is a renowned club. After four years at ES Thury-Harcourt, my heart club, I wanted to get out of my comfort zone.
