President of the Business Confederation of Portugal convinced that there will be a pleasant surprise of a drop in the IRC rate – Observer
The president of the Portuguese Business Confederation (CIP), António Saraiva, said this Tuesday that he believes there will be a pleasant surprise of a drop in the IRC rate from the current 21% to 19%.
“Convinced that we will be pleasantly surprised by the drop in the IRC from 21% to 19%”, said António Saraiva at the conference “Tax in the OE2022” by the Global Media Group, in Lisbon.
Speaking on a panel whose general theme is “The fiscal shock is key. How can the important approach to taxes in OE2023 help families and companies”, the president of CIP stressed that in the IRC (tax that is levied on company profits), Portugal “compares poorly” with other countries, so “more than the rate [passar de 21% para 19%] it is the signal that is given”, because there is “a reputational effect” with the decrease in the nominal IRC rate.
The president of the CIP said that this confederation is a contestation, in terms of the Social Conciliation, of the agreement on competitiveness and income, insisting on the need for stability and a decline “gradual and sliced” of the tax burden, but stated that it would not depend on the IRC tariff agreement.
“That is why we have to have a gradual and sliced reduction and that in the IRC the nominal rate is changed from 21% to 19% and that in the following year, if there are conditions, it goes down again”, he said, specifying, however: “we do not depend on of the agreement” of the IRC descent.
This Sunday, the Minister of Economy, António Costa Silva, said that a reduction in the corporate income tax transversal to all companies would be “an extremely important signal for the entire industry” and “extremely beneficial” given the current crisis.
“On this day, given the crisis we have, I think it may be beneficial to future terms from this reduction, to see what impact the regulator has in statements to journalists on the sidelines of a visit to Portuguese companies that, until now, participate in the fair of MICAM footwear, in Milan, Italy.
“Waiting for the negotiation of the agreement on income and competitiveness of the State, and after that plan of reducing the IRC”, he added.
Although no government program foresees a significant reduction in activity, aimed at technological innovation or businesses that reimburse the country, Costa undoubtedly invests in economic activity, invests in the country, “it is very clear that activity without an economy, bet , in Costa, that it is very clear that the activity without economy of the country, invests in the Coast “very clear that what is against the activity of the government”, somewhere, had to do this transversal reduction of the IRC“.
In an observation to what the Secretary of State for Tax Affairs, António Mendonçades, said at the opening session of this conference – a fiscal shock is not to solve the problems in which it valued PRR funds for companies to follow in the CIP energy transition shock stated that the transition from energy billing is being made now.
Before, the former secretary of the tax system and on the simplification of windfall profits (known as ‘)windfall s’) reminded that as energy sources they must already have an extraordinary contribution (the CESE) which, despite being extraordinary, is maintained, with the Stamp Duty, which was also extraordinary and which most ended. .
