News, Norway | Great excitement ahead of the current meeting
In his presentation, Oil and Energy Minister Terje Aasland (Ap) promised a comprehensive review of the situation Norway finds itself in, the measures the government has implemented, and the measures they will implement.
The minister has kept his cards close to his chest when it comes to what will be presented, but on Sunday evening he revealed one of the measures to VG.
It involves reinforcement in the form of more money for NVE and the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy to strengthen staffing and capacity in case processing. The proposal will be in the state budget next year.
Clear requirements
A unanimous presidency decided in August that the Storting should be called to meet in plenary earlier than normal as a result of the electricity situation. The Storting’s official opening normally only takes place in October.
The opposition has stated that it expected clear speech and firm action from the government. Several parties have announced their own proposals, but there is no plan for a separate debate on these.
Venstre and SV have, before NTB, highlighted support for energy saving as important. For the latter, improved electricity support for households and renegotiation of the agreements around the foreign cables are also crucial.
The maximum price for electricity becomes important
The Conservative Party has asked the government to come up with measures that contribute to faster development of renewable energy and more energy efficiency in the short term. Rødt and Frp have informed NTB that they will demand a maximum price for electricity, restrictions on exports and renegotiation of the cable agreements.
Aasland has been particularly critical of the proposal for a maximum price for electricity, which he believes could lead to increased consumption and less investment in the renewables sector.
