Katerina Siniakova vs. Elena Rybakina
The total prize pool is $251,750 (€203,024), which is 7.02% more than the previous year.
In addition to 280 points for ranking, the winner of Portorož, Katerina Siniakova, will also receive a check worth 26,770 euros, which is 13.68% more than in 2021.
On Sunday, Katerina Siniakova beat No. 3 seed and defending Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina to win the Zavarovalnica Sava Portorož title in one of the longest finals of the year. 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), 6-4.
Siniakova of the Czech Republic defeated Kazakhstan’s Rybakina in 3 hours and 6 minutes to win a set and a break from behind to win her third singles title of her career. Siniakova won her last two singles titles in Shenzhen and Bastad in 2017, but this is her first since then.
Rybakina raced out to a 5-0 lead, but Siniakova showed early signs that she was up for the fight, pushing the first set all the way to a tiebreak. Despite the winning streak, Rybakina managed to win four of the last five points in the first set tiebreak.
At 4-3 in the second set, Siniakova fell behind with a break, but the Czech immediately came back and took the set to a tiebreak again. This time, Siniakova took an early lead and won her third low point by converting, forcing Rybakina to return wide to level the match.
In the deciding game, Rybakina canceled out an early break by Siniakova, but the Czech regained the lead with a second break to make it 5-4. After a wide Rybakina forehand, Siniakova, who was serving for the match, scored her first championship point and eventually won the match and the trophy.
Tereza Mihalkova/Cristina Bucsa vs Tereza Martincova/Marta Kostyuk
Current champions Anna Kalinskaya and Tereza Mihalková withdrew from the competition before the start. Mihalkova played doubles with Cristina Bucşa, but the duo lost to Marta Kostyuk and Tereza Martincova 6-4, 6-0 in the championship match. It was the first WTA doubles win for Kostyuk and Martincova.
