The Alpaca of Andorra exhibits the best plate of knife-cut ham in the amateur exhibition of the Fair
The group La Alpaca de Andorra presented the Best Teruel Ham Plate at the thirteenth edition of the Amateur Ham Cutters Exhibition, which was held again this Saturday in the Historic Center after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
This exhibition has become for fifteen years one of the most participatory, popular and crowded acts of the Ham and Quality Food Fairs. In addition, the restrictions imposed to stop the covid prevented its realization in 2020 and 2021, so the cutters are eager to return to the streets.
The president of the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin (CRDOP) Ham/Shoulder of Teruel, Ricardo Mosteo, said that the recovery of this act supposes “the return to normality”. “The presence of cutters in the street makes the city breathe ham and it is one of the acts that we like the most because it allows us to offer a slice of our product to Teruel residents and visitors who come to the center,” he added.

A total of 125 people participated in the exhibition, divided into 25 groups of 5 components each. Seven of them settled in the Plaza de la Catedral, eight in Plaza del Torico and ten in Plaza de San Juan. The companies Sierra de Mora, Don Jate, Airesano, Andrés Izquierdo, Jamcal and Hermanos Sánchez Andrés contributed some of the sliced haunches.
In addition to the award for Best Dish, which went to the group La Alpaca from Andorra, three others were awarded: the Best Group in Plaza del Torico to Los Meléndez, the Best Group in Plaza de la Catedral to Las virutas del Carrel and the Best Group from the Plaza de San Juan to Los de Mora.
From the organizing company of the exhibition, they explained that most of the groups repeat their participation year after year. However, some of them have been renewed and have incorporated younger people, who are starting to cut ham.
Groups are made up of groups of family, friends, or co-workers. Among them there are, for example, two formed by doctors from Valencia who repeat participation.
Citizens who came to see the exhibition of different cutters also took advantage of Saturday afternoon to visit one of the 40 bars and restaurants in the city that participated, along with 8 other locations in towns in the province, in the Tapas Contest de Jamón de Teruel, which this year has the world of cinema as its theme and will last until next Sunday, September 25.
