Number of new cases and deaths continues to decline in Portugal: 16,457 infections and 36 deaths – Sociedade
Portugal recorded, between 6 and 12 September, 1657 infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, 36 deaths associated with covid-19 and an increase in hospitalizations, indicated this Friday the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
According to the DGS weekly epidemiological bulletin, compared to the previous week, there were 403 fewer cases of infection, with a reduction of 11 deaths in the comparison between the two periods.
As for hospital occupancy in mainland Portugal by covid-19, the DGS released on Fridays the data on hospitalizations referring to the Monday before the publication of the report.
Based on this last determination, the bulletin indicates that, on Monday, 446 people were hospitalized, 15 more than on the same day of the previous week, with 27 patients in intensive care units, minus six.
According to the DGS bulletin, the seven-day difficulty, on Monday, in the 160 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, having registered an increase of 2% compared to the previous week, the transmissibility index (Rt) of the coronavirus passed to 0.98.
By region, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo recorded 5,204 cases between September 6 and 12, 278 more than in the previous period, and 17 deaths, three more.
The Central region accounted for 3,363 cases (minus 317) and 12 deaths (plus four) and the North totaled 5,424 cases of infection (minus 181) and four deaths (minus 17).
In Alentejo, there were 673 positive cases (plus 99) and no deaths (minus one) and in the Algarve there were 764 infections by SARS-CoV-2 (minus 47) and three deaths (plus one).
As for the autonomous regions, the Azores had 440 new infections in the last seven days (minus 212) and no deaths (minus one), while Madeira recorded 589 cases for the second week in that period (minus 23 consecutive) and no deaths in the second week, according to DGS data.
According to the report, the age group between 60 and 69 years old presented the highest number of cases within seven days (2,598), followed by people between 50 and 59 years old (2,574), while young people between 10 and 19 years old were the group with the fewest infections (639) this week.
Of the total admissions, 162 were elderly people over 80 years old, followed by the age group from 70 to 79 years old (116) and from 60 to 69 years old (61).
The DGS also counted seven admissions in the age group of children up to 9 years old, two from 10 to 19 years old, 16 from 20 to 29 years old, 11 from 30 to 39 years old, 21 from 40 to 49 years old and 32 from 50 to 59 years old. .
The bulletin states that, in these seven days, 24 elderly people over 80 years old, nine people between 70 and 79 years old, two between 60 and 69 years old and one between 50 and 59 years old died.
Relatively old to pregnancy against covid-19 and the flu, the bulletin 7% of those over 80 years old received as two vaccines.
