Athens is on alert for the escalation of Turkish provocation
They are still trying to explain to Athens what happened next the Bosphorus meeting, when Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Recep Tayyip Erdogan they were together for hours and everyone believed that a new chapter was opening in Greek-Turkish relations. Since last March, Turkey has shown another face that similarly seasoned Greek diplomats have not seen.
Athens does not hide its concern about Ankara’s now daily incendiary rhetoric, with threats and warnings but also with an attitude that shows a clear subterfuge of our national sovereignty.
Diplomatic circles analyzing the statements of Turkish officials distinguish that their qualitative characteristics change day by day with the Turkey to obsessively raise the issue of islands and even threaten invasion. In other words casus belli is back on the table.
According to government sources, Greece’s tactics will not change in the face of Erdogan’s “bullies”. He will respond with calmness and determination, build alliances and internationalize at every opportunity the obvious Turkish provocation.
Great opportunity for the last one which is the UN General Assembly where both the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be as well as Nikos Dendias.
With a well-planned strategy next week they will describe step by step to their interlocutors every challenge, every threat, every violation of international law.
THE Prime Minister, has from the OE stage to inform enemies and friends that Greece remains faithful to the observance of international legality, is an advocate of peace and a factor of stability in our region. He will also denounce the libertarianism that governs the leadership of our neighboring country. At the same time, through the contacts he has with foreign leaders as well as interviews with major American media, he will also inform the public about the attitude of Erdogan’s Turkey towards the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the disdain he shows for the decisions of his NATO allies fully identifying with Vladimir Putin.
Finally, equally important is the fact that Greece always declares itself open to dialogue. After all, the phrase “Mitsotakis yoke” was uttered by the Turkish president.
