Hellas Verona, Hien: “As a striker I wasn’t very good, so my coach moved me behind”
Guests of the official channels of the club, the defender of Hellas Verona Isak Hien spoke thus of his first feelings related to the new square:
What were your first impressions of Verona?
“The city is splendid: I really like the center, especially in the evening, and the surroundings of Peschiera are also very beautiful. The only negative aspect is the mosquitoes (laughs, ed)”.
He had ever visited Verona as a tourist?
“No, it’s my first time in Italy”.
A favorite dish?
“In Sweden I often ate tacos, in Italy I highly recommended the pasta and risottos I tasted”.
He tells us about his origins?
“My grandparents grew up in Burkina Faso, moving to Ghana before my father was born. Then he arrived in Sweden when he was thirty, and there he met my mother, who is Swedish.”
He began his career as a forward, only later becoming a defender.
“Yes, that’s right. And if I have to be honest, as a striker I wasn’t that great. My coach at the time moved me to defense: at first I thought he was crazy, but now I’m happy.”
Playing in Serie A can greatly facilitate your growth as a defender.
“Yes, having played more as an attacker than a defender it is important that I improve in several, and there is no better country than Italy to do so.”
What an impression the fans made?
“Very good. At Djurgardens I had very warm fans, I didn’t expect to be so impressed when I arrived in Italy. It’s nice to play at home with this feeling, I think I’ll have fun this year.”
Fans like this lend a great hand in times of difficulty…
“Yes, that’s right. You almost feel obliged to go all out, because the fans are the first to do it. Their dedication means a lot to us players.”
What do you hear the fans say?
“I thank you for the warmth with which you welcomed me”.
