Free recorders for elementary school children – salzburg.ORF.at
Culture
At the beginning of this school year, 6,000 recorders will be given away to Salzburg’s elementary school children. The children’s festival project is intended to give the children the earliest possible, age-appropriate access to active music-making with their own instruments.
The project was initiated by the head of the Salzburg Children’s Festival and Philharmonic, Elisabeth Fuchs. Since school started, she has been traveling all over the country handing out the recorders. Around 260 elementary school classes have registered. “Strengths and weaknesses simply disappear, the music is in the foreground. It’s just so much fun – and I notice that too – it gives me joy in life and I just want to pass it on and this project gives support.”
Musical units with video tutorials
Elisabeth Fuchs and her team have also written their own recorder booklets and recorded video tutorials for teachers and students. The 6,000 recorders were financed by an unspecified private sponsor.
In Zederhaus (Lungau), the entire elementary school signed up for the project. For director Rosemarie Gfrerer, this was a matter of course: “It works best when all the children are playing. Because that motivates those who would otherwise not pick up an instrument.” And for the second grade teacher, Iris Kaml, the recorders are a great addition to the lesson, because the additional effort is manageable. “It loosens up the lessons and the children enjoy it.”
Philharmonic gives away recorders
At the beginning of this school year, the Philharmonie is giving away 6,000 recorders to elementary school students. This is intended to give children access to active music-making with their own instrument as early as possible.
