A record number of arctic fox litters were born in Norway this summer
72 new litters of arctic fox were born in Norway this summer. It is the largest amount since the national monitoring of arctic foxes began almost 20 years ago.
A total of 334 arctic fox pups have been registered in the 72 litters, writes the Norwegian Environment Agency.
The final figures will come in December, when the Norwegian Institute for Natural Research has compiled and quality-assured the data. It is nevertheless clear that 2022 surpasses the previous peak year for the arctic fox in 2018, when 58 litters were born.
In Sweden and Finland too, 2022 has so far been a good arctic fox year. In Sweden, 88 litters have been registered and in Finland, one has been registered. The Finnish red fox litter is the first to be recorded since 1996.
