EJ Obiena takes gold and once again dominates Golden Fly Liechtenstein – Klajoo
Schaan, Liechtenstein – Filipino pole vaulter Ernest John “EJ” Obiena capped his excellent season with another golden triumph at the Golden Fly on Sunday in Schaan, Liechtenstein. – klajoo.com – The number 3 in the world rankings in pole vault jumps 5.71 meters and thus dominates the field.
Obiena’s win capped the second part of his season, which saw the current Asian record holder win five gold medals in seven events in three weeks.
The climax of these siege wars came when Obiena defeated Olympic champion and world record holder Mondo Duplantis at the Diamond League Memorial van Damme in Brussels.

American Olen Tray Oates took the silver medal with 5.61 m, while Austria’s Ricardo Klotz was third with 5.51 m.
The Filipino athletics star tried his luck in the 6.00m but was unsuccessful.
“Exactly one year ago today, I broke the 29-year-old Asian pole vault record without jumping 5.93 meters. A lot has happened since then, and just a few hours ago I would have done 6 meters quickly. As always, we keep trying and fighting for our country,” Obiena said in his Facebook post.
Obiena broke his personal, national and Asian records at the IAAF World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA in July and secured the bronze medal by clearing 5.94 meters on the second attempt. – INQUIRER.net/KR
