Miscellaneous – Justice | Vaucluse: one year closed for a refusal to comply followed by a chase with the police between Cavaillon and Aix
Said, 30 years old, his face more youthful than his date of birth indicates. A regular in the justice system since he has a dozen convictions, mainly for theft or drug trafficking. This time, it is for a refusal to comply with endangerment that he is judged by the court of Avignon in immediate comparison. Without really realizing the seriousness of the offense and, above all, the penalty he incurs, namely a maximum of seven years.
The facts are simple. It is almost midnight in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, in the city center of Cavaillon, a municipal police crew stops to check a Citroën C3 vehicle placed in the middle of the road. But the driver starts again and, in spite of the injunctions of the police officers, does not stop. A little further on, he stops but speeds off again, hitting the police vehicle as he passes. Then begins a chase that will lead the C3 to Aix… Other police forces to smoke the relay. The car will break through two toll gates, at Cavaillon and Lançon, with, according to Saïd, a change of driver on the fly in a vehicle launched at full speed on the motorway… Finally, the Aix police officers will succeed in arrest the three occupants of the C3.
It is Saïd who is identified as the driver, by one of the municipal police officers but also with the images of the video surveillance. Problem, he doesn’t have a license. In court, he only partially acknowledges the facts, apologizes and swears that we will never see him again if we let him go free.
But, in accordance with the requisitions of Pierre Cramier, deputy prosecutor, Saïd is sentenced to two years in prison, one of which is firm. He left with the escort to the Pontet prison center.
