Baby band | Verona | Security | Tosi
Security and baby gangs had been a matter of confrontation between the main mayoral candidates during the Verona election campaign. And still to be so even now, almost three months after Damiano Tommasi’s victory
The clash was rekindled by the aggression carried out by a baby gang against a group of minors at the rides in Borgo Santa Croce. An attack that took place last Thursday, September 8, and very similar in terms to others that took place in the previous days in other areas of the city. The victims are surrounded, beaten and robbed by the attackers who always present themselves in groups and who are described as very young.
Faced with this problem, the line of Mayor Tommasi and his administration has not changed: not only repression, but also support for families and more spaces for young people. Too soft a line, according to the opposition councils. The Northern League municipal councilor Nicolò Zavarise calls for severe punishments for young crimes, but also “suspension of the benefit of citizenship income for the parents of minors who commit certain and non-extenuating juvenile crimes and trials”.
And, again from the opposition, Councilor Flavio Tosi speaks of insecurity as a problem already serious during the previous administration, in which the League of Zavarise was in charge of the city, and which the new center-left junta would not be dealing with well. «I believe that those who lead the community must do less philosophy and operate on a safety level – said Tosi – First of all, we must prevent, by presiding over the territory, working with the prefect every day and not only during the meetings of the committee in charge. Repression is indispensable, not dialogue with the perpetrator. If with the past administration the situation had already worsened, today I notice an ideological mismatching of the center-left which does not help to face and overcome the problem ».
