Munich: Green kicks with dual leadership to the Bavarian state elections
The Greens nominate Katharina Schulze and Ludwig Hartmann as the top team for the state elections. The decision will be made at the party conference in Landshut.
Top team instead of top candidate: The Bavarian Greens want to score points in the state elections in autumn next year with the duo Katharina Schulze and Ludwig Hartmann, but no candidate for the office of Prime Minister in the race. On Friday in Munich, the state committee of the party nominated the two chairmen of the state parliamentary group for the party congress on 24./25. September in Landshut. The decision, according to the head of the Greens, Eva Lettenbauer, was made in the meeting “with a large majority”. The delegates at the party congress would have the last word.
The declared election goal of the Greens, who achieved their best ever result in the state elections in 2018 with 17.5 percent, is government participation. “We finally want a design option,” said Hartmann, “we want that no government can be formed without us.” However, he and Schulze did not want to be committed to a specific percentage.
Most important topics: energy blockade, climate neutrality, equal opportunities
Of course, it is clear that the Greens can only achieve their goal if it is not enough for the coalition between the CSU and the Free Voters to continue and if they themselves win again. The CSU recently got 37.2 percent, the free voters got 11.6 percent. And both government partners have already agreed to continue their coalition.
According to Schulze, the most important political content of the Greens is to dissolve the energy blockade, achieve climate neutrality and ensure equal opportunities in education. In addition, Bavaria should “become the first federal state with equal rights” in which women receive the same wages for the same work. “It makes us foolish that the solutions are actually on the table but are not implemented,” said Schulze. Hartmann said that the years in government of the CSU and Freie Wahlern were “lost years for Bavaria”. He felt “a clear desire for honesty and energy in politics.”
