Bishop Glettler ordains two men as deacons
Bishop Hermann Glettler will ordain Danijel Juric and Tobias Höck as deacons on Saturday, September 10, at 10 a.m. in Telfs. While for Höck the deacon ordination is an intermediate step to the priestly ordination, Juric is ordained a permanent deacon. The two are already working as pastors in the diocese of Innsbruck.
Born in Germany in 1978, Tobias Höck is a member of the Innsbruck seminary. He is already working as a pastor in the parish hospital of St. Barbara. Danijel Juric, born in 1985, comes from Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he also studies theology. He has been working as a pastoral assistant in the pastoral care room in Telfs since 2015. Juric is married and has three children.
The diaconate had been restored by the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) as a distinct and permanent hierarchical level, as was customary in the early church. Since 1968, married men can also be ordained “permanent deacons” in the Catholic Church. Deacons are active in the liturgy, preaching and charitable work. In the liturgy they can be recognized by the stole worn across the chest. The specific profile of a deacon includes service to the poor and disadvantaged.
In addition to the married deacon, there is also the unmarried. He must take the vow of celibacy before the ordination. For most unmarried deacons, the diaconate is an intermediate step to priestly ordination.
