About mansion
The history of Manor begins at the end of the 19th century (designating the later development of the company) in French- and German-speaking Biel. This is where the brothers and wholesalers Ernest and Henri Maus – who have been based in Geneva with the wholesale business Maus Fréres since 1901 – befriend their customer, the retailer Léon Nordmann. In 1902, the three far-sighted businessmen opened the “Léon Nordmann” department store on Weggisgasse in Lucerne. It is considered to be the original house of today’s group of companies. In the course of time, numerous department stores of the family company were built in Switzerland.
The company name Manor – made up of the names Maus and Nordmann – was created around 1965 during the development of a new corporate identity. At the same time, the previously different names of the department stores were redefined regionally: Rheinbrücke for Basel and Liestal, Nordmann for Central Switzerland, Vilan for the Zurich/Eastern Switzerland region, Placette for French-speaking Switzerland, Innovazione for Ticino. All department stores belonging to the company in German-speaking Switzerland have been renamed Manor since 1994, as have all stores in western Switzerland and Ticino since September 2000.
Manor AG, headquartered in Basel, is a subsidiary of Maus Fréres Holding in Geneva. The largest Swiss department store group welcomes its customers to the most attractive locations in the country and thus contributes to the revitalization of Swiss cities. the company is pursuing an omnichannel strategy (use and linking of physical shops and online shop) and also operates an online marketplace for selected manufacturers and brand partners at manor.ch. The company is represented in all parts of the country, employs around 8,000 people and trains over 200 apprentices. The Manor Group includes 59 Manor department stores, 27 Manor Food supermarkets and 24 Manor restaurants. In total, Manor carries over a million items from around 2800 suppliers from all over the world. Around 700 of these are local producers who, as part of the Manor “Local” programme, supply seasonal products to the Manor Food supermarkets, among other things. Manor prides itself on a range of over 2000 local products, supporting local farmers and businesses to promote and promote local farming.
