WARNING! Stronger storms will hit Slovakia today. When and what will they bring?
The weather in Europe began to be affected by a cold front, which already brought strong storms to neighboring states yesterday. However, they also affected Western Europe. The culprit is a cold front that moved further east during the night and will start to affect the weather in Slovakia today.
In just a few hours, the weather in our territory will change. We are still enjoying calm weather and it will still be very warm today. Temperatures will rise and today is the hottest day of the week. The influx of warm air is peaking in our area, thanks to which the maximum temperatures in Slovakia today reach +30 °C.
During today’s noon, however, these high temperatures will be “cut” by a cold front that will bring numerous storms.
The storms already did damage yesterday
A cold front affected the weather in many areas of Europe yesterday. Intense storms occurred in Western Europe, but also in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. Above all, it was a pre-frontal storm.
These were locally stronger and several supercells even formed. Supercells were also present in the neighboring Czech Republic and brought hailstones, the largest of which had a diameter of up to 3 cm.
More than 300,000 lightning strikes have struck Europe in the past few hours and a cold front with storms has moved across Germany overnight. Now it is heading over the Czech Republic and Austria, and during the day it will also reach our territory.
Storms will bring strong winds and hit many places
Today’s storms in our territory should be expected from 14:00. The first showers and storms will form in western Slovakia and on the border between western and central Slovakia.
Until 18:00 today, storms will occur mainly over western and central Slovakia, and after 18:00 storms are expected to arrive in the east of our territory as well.
During the afternoon, a more significant storm system should form, moving from the west to the east. This storm system will bring fairly significant rainfall and high lightning activity.
At the head of the storms, strong gusty winds must also be expected. Storms should gradually move across our entire territory.
The storms should leave the gates of Slovakia only at night, and during the morning hours the last precipitation will stop in the east. After midnight it will start to clear from the west and tomorrow morning will be sunny.
So get ready for fairly strong storms today that can cause damage. Storms are already forming on the frontal system and you can move them watch HERE.
