San Marino. A documentary on the sculptor Aldo Volpini, screened on 13 September in the Cava degli Umbri
The documentary traces the various phases of the artistic activity of Maestro Aldo Volpini, to leave memory on one of the most famous San Marino stonemasons of the last century.
Volpini artist, sculptor, set designer, portraitist, restorer, but “stonemason” production, was the last of the great stonecutters of the San Marino tradition and left a vast art-craftsmanship, of public and private commission, accomplished in almost forty years of activity that countless traces of works, bas-reliefs, sculptures that embellish not only streets, and glimpses of the city.
When he was still a child he entered the Lugi Reffi quarry, which had been passed on to his son Gaetano and his father recommended to the oldest of the stonemasons, called “Sarafa”, to welcome him well and patiently teach him the trade. From that moment he marine started this great San Marino story inextricably linked to the stone of Monte Titano.
In 2015, as part of a very important retrospective, sculptural but also pictorial works were exhibited, including self-portraits and works focused on the Santo Marino, a recurring theme in his artistic imagination.
Since the artistic production is widely, the documentary, with unpublished images and music by Maestro Massimiliano Messieri, brings light and meaning to so much beauty of San Marino matrix.
The presentation will take place on Tuesday 13 September at 9.00 pm, at the Cava degli Umbri.
