How many Brazilians are there really in Portugal?
This week that there are statistics Lisbon overtook Miami and up the place for the first time Brazilians abroad.
The most important thing is to understand the current migratory flow to Portugal is no longer just a measure, it is a mental reality. Going to live in Portugal is no longer a dream and is now a natural option.
If the total number of national territory80 866) is united in just one electoral territory, this 28th largest municipality8.
There are more Brazilian voters in Portugal than Portuguese voters in such important municipalities as Aveiro, Santarém, Castelo Branco, Évora, Bragança, Beja and Portalegre, capital cities of the district and representing more than half of the Iberian country’s territory.
In proportion it would be, as if in capitals like João Pessoa, Cuiabá, Aracaju, Porto Velho or Florianópolis, only Portuguese. Something hard to imagine.
But being incomprehensible to our eyes, this is the reality for which Portuguese people have to prepare themselves with the growing number of Brazilians who land in Lisbon and Porto every day.
Taking for granted the foreseeable growth of this number, mirrored in the recent measures taken by the Portuguese authorities even as senior citizens, we can expect a presence in Portuguese lands.
If this growth is only arithmetical, taking into account the relationship with the 2018 election, the number of Brazilians registered to vote in Portugal increased by 113.6%, we are before a real change in structure in Portuguese.
In order not to lose its attractiveness as a destination country, Portugal needs to understand its new responsibilities and prepare for them.
