Newly delivered fishing boats are in operation in Iceland, Sweden and the UK while a Turkish builder is floating out a large seiner/trawler ordered by a customer in Norway.
Islands Thorberg receives a locally built bait boat
Iceland-based fishing company Thorberg has taken delivery of a new bait and line fishing boat from local builder Trefjar.
Indridi Kristins replaces an older boat with the same name in the Thorberg fleet.
The new boat measures 12.5 by 6.5 meters and is powered by a Doosan 4V158TI engine mated to a ZF gearbox. Two generators supply electricity.
The boat also has Mustad autolining equipment and a fish room with capacity for 54 boxes of 460 liters each.
The crew of eight are housed in four cabins. Other living spaces include a large mess with kitchenette, toilet with shower and laundry room.
UK’s Waterdance expands crabbing fleet with newbuild acquisition
British fishing company Waterdance recently welcomed a new crab boat to its fleet.
Ladram’s winter was built by Parkol Marine Engineering in Whitby. The newbuild has an LOA of 21.4 meters, a beam of 7.7 meters and accommodation for ten crew members although the vessel can be used by eight people including the captain.
Live crabs are kept in a 50,000-litre vivier tank while a separate dry room houses bait cabinets. A Volvo D16C-D MH engine drives a Michigan Marine propeller via a Reintjes gearbox.
Ladram’s winter will operate mainly in the Irish Sea, where it will be used to catch crabs and lobsters.
Swedish-built herring trawler starts operational sailings
The Swedish family-owned fishing company Carmona has started operational sailings of a new locally built pelagic trawler.
The new building, also named Carmonameasures 49.9 by 12.5 meters and has a total installed power of 2,700 kW and a fish space that can hold up to 1,200 tonnes.
The trawler has already started fishing for herring in home waters.
Turkish shipyard launches new seiner/trawler for Norwegian Vea
Ozata Shipyard in Turkey has shipped out a new seiner/trawler ordered by Norwegian fishing company Vea.
Built to a design by Norwegian naval architecture firm Sawicon, Alas will measure 67.6 by 14.5 meters and will be fitted with RSW tanks with a total capacity of 1,700 cubic meters.
The vessel will have Karmoy fishing equipment and a production and monitoring system from MMC.
