Swedish election: short primer to this month’s vote
(MENAFN) The political race to form Sweden’s next government could not be more competitive.
With a parliamentary election on September 11, the left-wing Social Democrats, who have been the dominant party in every election for the past century, face a strong challenge from the right-wing parties.
If her party wins the most seats and appears capable of forming a stable coalition bloc with other left and center parties, incumbent Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson may be able to form the next government. However, a right-wing coalition government led by either the Moderates, the country’s traditional conservative party, or the Sweden Democrats, the country’s surging far-right party, could be called upon to form the next coalition.
With Andersson doing much better than his party, and much of the election debate revolving around traditional right-wing issues, there is still a lot to play for as campaigning enters the final stretch before election day.
