Scholarship as an incentive for future country doctors
Anyone who decides to go to the Tyrolean province while still at university will receive up to 900 euros per month for tuition.
The state of Tyrol is providing a total of 432,000 euros as part of the “Country Doctor Grants” initiative of the Medical University of Innsbruck (MedUni). “It’s about an active contribution to the security of medical care in rural Tyrol. The funds are available for the years 2022 to 2026 and are intended to create an incentive for students to work as a country doctor for general medicine in Tyrol after they have completed their training,” explains the responsible provincial councilor Anette Leja.
The first call for applications for the scholarships is to start in the coming winter semester – students studying human medicine at the Medical University of Innsbruck are eligible. Candidates are selected by a MedUni committee.
Up to ten grants of 900 euros per month over four years are to be paid out to female rural doctors in their third year of study. The scholarship is linked to the obligation to work as a general practitioner in rural Tyrol for at least five years after completing your studies.
Prerequisites for the scholarship are, among other things, better academic success and exceeding the minimum training period by no more than one year. The initiative is financed by the state of Tyrol, the organization and financial processing is carried out by the MedUni.
