Le rallye automobile en hommage à Eiffel passe par Bordeaux
“This rally, through its route through Europe, marks the candidacy for the inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List of the six high-arch viaducts that are the Müngsten bridge depending on the towns of Solingen and Remscheid in Germany; the San Michele bridge in Italy, the Garabit viaduct and the Viaur viaduct in France, as well as the Marie Pia and Dom Luis bridges in Portugal”, explains Myriam Larnaudie-Eiffel, great-great-granddaughter of the famous engineer and president of the association of the descendants of Gustave Eiffel. “This candidacy is very important to highlight the feat achieved during the construction of these bridges and to pay tribute to their master builders. »
Treasure hunt
Myriam Larnaudie-Eiffel, godmother of the rally, naturally approached the Automobile Club du Sud-Ouest (Acso) to receive drivers worthy of their rank. François Halary, director of Acso and Jean-Yves Beaupigny, secretary, have done everything to ensure that a vibrant tribute is paid to the brave crews who, after having crossed the Swiss mountains, the sunny plains of Italy, Provence perfumed, the arid deserts of Spain, arrive in Bordeaux.
There will therefore be entertainment this Wednesday in the city center. The cars will be visible in a closed park at Quinconces. “It’s a rally in the form of a treasure hunt,” says Myriam Larnaudie-Eiffel. There’s no racing, we’re not talking about speed, but it’s very physical for the competitors and the mechanics of the cars also suffer. »
The crews will not have time to visit the vineyard because, after a reception at the Town Hall followed by a gala dinner in the salons of the Acso, they will be back on the road the next morning.
