Fewer children from Ukraine went to Polish schools
300,000 students from Ukraine were preparing for education at the Ministry
In Poland, they counted Ukrainian students in schools and were surprised: the number of refugees has decreased significantly. Currently, 185,000 children from Ukraine are studying, although it is expected that from September 1 there will be about 300,000 of them.
Why did fewer refugees choose Polish schools in the fall than in the spring? TRAVEL RBC-Ukraine tells with reference to Notes from Poland.
“The majority study remotely in Ukraine”
The number of refugee children from Ukraine enrolled in schools in Poland for the new academic year is about 185,000, the Minister of Education plans Prezhemyslav Charnek.
“Many expect that this number will be higher than at the end of the previous school year in June. Schools are ready to accept up to 300,000 additional Ukrainian students, but in fact now there are 7,000 fewer,” the official said.

The government assumes that the number of students from Ukraine may increase over time. According to estimates, there are 700,000 to 800,000 school-age refugees from Ukraine per day in Poland. This means that many still do not attend Polish schools, or the calculation is overestimated.
According to Prezhemislav Charnek, “most of these children are probably studying remotely in Ukrainian schools,” many of which offer a form of online education to students displaced by the war.
The minister cites the return of some children to Ukraine as another reason – many refugee families left for home after active hostilities were concentrated in the east. Or refugees moved from Poland to seek refuge in other countries.

There were no conflicts between Polish and Ukrainian children
During the speech on the occasion of the beginning of the academic year, the minister thanked all students and teachers throughout Poland for the excellent welcome given to Ukrainian refugees in all schools.
“There is no place in Poland where any information about the problems in relations between our pupils and Ukrainian pupils would come from. This is a great merit of our teachers, our pupils and our parents,” he added.

Poland became the main destination for those who fled Ukraine from the war. More than 40% of the refugees were children. The authorities do not yet know exactly how many refugees remain in Poland, but according to estimates, more than 1 million have been found.
