Climate bonus: confusion among pensioners – salzburg.ORF.at

The various subsidies for inflation cause confusion among older citizens – this is observed by the consumer protection groups in the Salzburg Chamber of Labour. Many would take the one-off payment for pensioners for the climate bonus and then wonder why they didn’t get the full 500 euros.
The climate bonus should still be 500 euros for all Austrians today, in the coming year the amount will be staggered. In the past few days, an increasing number of older people have asked the Chamber of Labor why the supposed climate bonus and the subsidy paid to them is not 500 euros: “We receive a lot of calls about this misunderstanding, because many here use the climate bonus with the extraordinary one-off payment for pensioners confused,” says AK consumer advocate Christian Obermoser.
Changed the climate bonus with a one-time payment for pensioners
This one-time payment for retired people can amount to EUR 500 – but this only applies to pensions between EUR 1,200 and EUR 1,800 per month. For higher pensions, the one-time payment is lower and is eliminated entirely for higher pensions.
“The difficult thing about the whole thing is that people with a lower pension, i.e. less than 1,200 euros, only get a portion of their entire pension. And is it well below these 500 euros? A pensioner with a pension of 1,500 euros, for example, gets the full 500 euros here. For someone who only gets a pension of 1,000 euros, the one-off payment is less than 200 euros,” says Obermoser.
“Climate bonus is automatically added to the account in October”
Regarding the climate bonus, the consumer advocate calms down and points out that the federal government automatically transfers the 500 euros to the account: “Many are afraid that they won’t get the 500 euros. Here I can reassure you that pensioners will receive a climate bonus of 500 euros in October, in addition to the money they have now received,” says Obermoser.
