Cate Blanchett and “Tar” co-stars dazzle in Venice | Art + Culture | Halifax, Nova Scotia
TThe 79th Venice International Film Festival is now underway. Night 2 (Thursday, September 1) celebrated the premiere of the film Tar, by Todd Field. Cate Blanchett made a dramatic arrival as a crowd of enthusiastic fans cheered.
Blanchett plays a classical music conductor and composer, and her outstanding performance and critical acclaim suggest she is a strong contender for the prestigious Coppa Volpi, the award for best actress in a leading role. The star-studded cast, which includes actresses Noémie Merlant, Nina Hoss and Sophie Kauer, all shine with elegance and sophistication on the red carpet.
Notable guests included the elegant Georgina Rodiquez, a Spanish model/ballerina and partner of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who added a glamorous and very Spanish style to her appearance at the premiere.
On Thursday there was also the premiere of Bobby Wine: President of the Ghettoby Christopher Sharp, a powerful documentary about the life of Ugandan Bobi Wine and his wife Barbie, which tells the story of his rise from utter poverty to a voice of the people.
In the evening we saw the premiere of the epic Mexican comedy film Bardon, directed by Alejandro Iñárritu and starring Daniel Giménez Cacho. The upbeat and energetic cast and director arrived on the red carpet creating an exciting atmosphere in tune with the mood of the film.
Eager crowds gathered early Friday morning to await the arrival of rising star Timothée Chalamet for the premiere of Bones and allfrom Italian director Luca Guadagnino and also stars Mark Rylance and Taylor Russell.
