Ukraine and Europe will survive the battle for this heating season – Shmyhal
The European Union has been preparing for this heating season by filling up storage and cutting energy supplies, while Ukraine has stockpiled more coal and gas than before.
This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a conversation with Ukrainian journalists in Brussels, the correspondent of Ukrinform reported.
According to him, all the meetings demonstrate that the EU was preparing for the difficult passage of this heating season on both the political and technical levels: “Their storage facilities are full. They are ready to go through this winter, they are preparing society. They give political missives.”
Shmyhal also noted that European government officials are cutting back on gas and other energy resources because they understand that this year and this heating season is a season of war on our energy market unleashed by Russia.
“Accordingly, we understand that together with Ukraine, with Europe, it will be difficult, but this heating season will pass well and confidently. We also accumulated a certain amount of gas. More than usual. We have accumulated huge reserves of coal, much more than actually,” said the Prime Minister.
The head of the government of Ukraine added that the government is also preparing and purchasing mobile equipment in order to quickly respond to military risks, that is, in the event of the destruction of certain infrastructural facilities of the energy system, to quickly restore them.
“Therefore, I am convinced that we will endure, and Europe and Ukraine will endure this battle for this heating season. That’s my name,” concluded Shmyhal.
As Ukrinform reported, Shmyhal previously stated that Ukraine has about 13 billion cubic meters of gas in storage and more than 2 million tons of coal.
