“Mia women ride”, the new journey for cyclists on the Aida cycle path starts from Verona from 16 to 18 September 2022 Events in Verona
United, free, colorful and aware: they are the women of MIA women’s tourthe first bike trip only for cyclists who, after the success of the first edition, returns from 16 to 18 September 2022. The women of MIA Women Ride, of all ages and from all over Italy, will also lead in 2022 along the 192 km divided into three stages from Verona to Milan a clear and convinced message: women on bikes are there, they want and want to do it together.
MIA is aimed at all cyclists: those who already go down dirt roads and also sleep who have never left yet, but a mad desire to feel free and put themselves to the test. MIA is joy, sharing, adventure. And so it was in the first edition, when mothers with newborn children, cycle-travelers returning from intercontinental trips, students struggling for the first time over long distances, FIAB members, women of all ages, from 30 to 75 years old. MIA Women Ride is a surprising journey: stories, confidences, smiles intertwine. Each woman participates in the others, and the journey creates a sense of cycles: each woman with her bike interprets the race in her own way, singing uphill, expecting downhill, helping each other, always united and courageous.
It will be the same in 2022: the second edition of MIA Women Ride will be held from 16 to 18 September with departure from Verona and arrival in Milan. Participants will travel about 190 km in three days along the AIDA cycle path, pedaling on safe cycle paths and small villages to discover. The start Friday 16 September at 14 in Piazza San Zeno in Verona, with the first stage that will end in Desenzano sul Garda. On Saturday 17th they will cycle from Desenzano to Romano di Lombardia, passing through Brescia. Closed on Sunday 18 from Romano to the center of Milan. Every day a stage in which we start and arrive together, because MIA wants first of all to be a community, the community of women who want to get involved. There are three ways to participate: unsupported, supported and supported + hotel, so that everyone feels comfortable and travels according to their needs. Registrations are open online on the site www.miaride.it.
The event is organized and started by three different realities that have been operating for years in the Italian cycle tourism sector. They are: the Cyclists by chance, a well-known duo of cyclists / bloggers among the most in Italy – their documentary “Grizzly Tour” is visible on Amazon Prime and their book “Italy by bike in the footsteps of Alfonsina Strada” is in all bookstores; Witoor, a company specializing in the design and organization of unique cycling events in Italy – including Rando Imperator and the Bike Night tour; Ciclovia AIDA-Alta Italia da Traversare, a project born in 2016 by FIAB Onlus, included in the Bicitalia network and recognized by the Ministry of Transport: a cycling itinerary traced by FIAB from Moncenisio to Trieste.
Why a run for women? Because female participation in cycling events is constantly growing. From 2014 to today, the average female presence at Bike Night Witoor has reached 25%, and in the last 10 years the women who play sports in Italy have increased by 12% (Censis data). “At a time when in Italy there are many trails and demanding cycling events, which are almost exclusively male terms – says Silvia Gottardi of the” Cyclists for many cases “- there was a greater desire to organize an easy race in terms of mileage and altitude difference. , in order to make it accessible to a greater number of women. Our goal is to bring more and more women closer to cycling and thus promote, more generally, women’s sport as well ». Linda Ronzoni, “Cicliste per Caso”, continues: «The idea of creating an event for women only then came by itself. We want women to meet, support each other and network. There is a lot of feminine energy that needs to find space and spaces to express herself ».
“Witoor has always tried to propose a transversal way of cycling, which knows how to involve both those who are already passionate and those who want to approach the world of cycling – explains Simone Dovigo, president of Witoor – and also with MIA Women Ride we want to propose a adventure for all. If the Bike Nights have brought a new audience over the long distance, MIA Women Ride is a proposal that offers women who have never traveled the opportunity to do it together with a community, in safety, for those who are already trained it will be an opportunity to share your passion with new people “.
«Like AIDA, the question has been buzzing in our heads for a while – concludes Michele Cremonesi, co-founder of the AIDA project -: why does cycling in Italy seem to be predominantly male? We followed the “white rabbit”, and found that the answer is very multifaceted. Above all, there is great potential for women’s cycling, which could all benefit the territories crossed by AIDA and every Italian cycle route. This is the reason why as AIDA has given our contribution to MIA, which perfectly embodies the statutory values of FIAB Onlus, our mother association ».
