Green campaign start without fanfare – tirol.ORF.at
Mair did not want to make announcements about green coalition preferences at the start, which was held as a press conference in Innsbruck. On the other hand, he made heavy criticism of the ÖVP and SPÖ. The blacks would be in free fall, which would not be over on election day, Mair alluded to the coalition partner’s poor poll numbers. The ÖVP has been doing it for too long, people are fed up with the self-enrichment mentality. Mair also did not have much good to say about the SPÖ and its boss Georg Dornauer: “Dornauer only thinks of Dornauer,” he says and immediately listed the main problems of Wien Energie as well as the increase in the district heating price and the increases in fees in Vienna.
Greens draw a “ban mile” around the FPÖ
At the same time he said: “We want to build bridges instead of tearing them down”, the Greens are able to hold talks with everyone – except for the FPÖ, around which a “ban mile” has been drawn. However, he was shocked and outraged by the state election campaign, which the other parties conducted in an ignorant and meaningless manner, said Mair. “How can you prevent the greatest crisis of our generation?” he asked. “Ecological faults always lead to social faults. I am all the more annoyed when posters say: ‘Straight ahead’. Where? the wall?” he alluded to the ÖVP posters.
Tougher pace required for truck controls
In the election campaign, the Greens want to focus on the issues of labor shortages, democracy, health and care, the climate crisis, housing, transport, education and inflation. When it comes to traffic, for example, Petra Wohlfahrtstätter, second on the list, called for a tougher approach to truck controls, which would require a hundred additional police officers from Vienna. In addition, a slot system for trucks must be developed. These points are laid down in a 122-page election program that 80 people have been working on since March.
Emphasis on expanding solar power
The eco-party focuses on the expansion of renewable energy sources, especially photovoltaics. The topic is connected with housing. Every new building will probably have a PV system on the roof, which can also reduce operating costs, said Mair. The goal is affordable and climate-neutral living space.
Mair on childcare: “Were not strong enough”
While the Greens, as a small coalition partner, together with the ÖVP, only today voted against the opposition motion for a legal entitlement to childcare, they now apparently sense the real possibility of implementation. The legal entitlement to a childcare place from the first birthday has actually been a green demand for a long time. ÖVP top candidate Anton Mattle made a U-turn at the weekend and spoke out in favor of such a move, SPÖ leader Dornauer also immediately made this a coalition condition. The Green Klobmann Mair admitted that the coalition was not strong enough to enforce it.
In the area of transparency, the Greens want to score points with an “anti-greed package”. “Without clean party finances, we will not exist in a government,” Mair stated as a condition. Specifically, the Greens are demanding that the State Audit Office have the right to inspect party finances, and the ban on donations – which was agreed before the election – should be anchored in law.
