Electricity price brake: approval and criticism – salzburg.ORF.at
Austrians will be prepared to pay ten cents per kilowatt hour for the first 2,900 kilowatt hours of their annual electricity consumption as a result of the price brake. Everything that is obtained from it must be paid for at current market prices. “This is a real next step. In the economic sector, however, further steps are necessary, because small and medium-sized companies are groaning enormously under the burden of energy costs,” says Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP).
Greens satisfied: “The model is an incentive to save electricity”
The Greens in Salzburg are also satisfied with the plans to cushion high energy costs. “That quickly corresponds exactly to the suggestion I made back in July that we support the average household by guaranteeing a lower price here. If you need more, you have to pay the market price, but that’s also an incentive to save electricity,” says state party chairman Heinrich Schellhorn (The Greens).
The SPÖ in Salzburg describes the relief plans as correct, but criticizes the long implementation time: “Everything that helps the Austrians to relieve the budget here is a correct and important measure. In Germany, the electricity price brake was already decided at the weekend and is being implemented – in Austria there is once again an announcement from the government,” says SPÖ state party chairman David Egger.
FPÖ and NEOS criticize plans
Criticism of the expected electricity price brake comes from the FPÖ and NEOS. For the pink ones, the cushioning is not enough: “The watering can is poured out here, no distinction is made as to whether it is a small household or a multi-person household. The marksmanship is not given for us,” criticized the second President of the NEOS, Sebastian Huber.
Criticism FPÖ: Prices remain the same
The state party leader of the FPÖ, Marlene Svazek, resists the term brake and lid and criticizes that the prices remain the same: “In truth, it’s what you’ve been doing for years – you hand out vouchers without a socially accurate solution have and sprinkles it over the population. The prices for heating and gas remain the same, and refueling remains expensive.”
Salzburg AG will handle the electricity price brake
The Liberals continue to demand an end to Russia sanctions as a solution to the energy crisis. In Salzburg, the electricity price brake is mainly handled by Salzburg AG. The energy supplier will not yet comment on the government’s plan, the company is waiting for the details to be presented on Wednesday.
