Brett Connolly has signed a one-year contract with Swiss HC Lugano
2018 Stanley Cup Winner Brett Connolly now knows where he will be playing his hockey in the 2022/23 season.
Monday, HC Lugano from the National League in Switzerland announced that they have signed Connolly to a one-year deal. It is Connolly’s first contract signed outside of North America.

In the announcement, HC Lugano point out that Connolly’s signing is partly due to the long COVID impact that former Capitals forward Daniel Carr is currently facing. Carr was one of Lugano’s most prolific strikers in part of two seasons with the club.
Connolly will join Switzerland after the Chicago Blackhawks bought out the remainder of his contract earlier this summer. The 30-year-old winger has regularly skated with Capitals rosters on informal pre-training camp skates in the MedStar Capitals IcePlex.
In 2021-22, the British Columbia native played primarily at the American Hockey League level with the Rockford Icehogs, scoring 35 points in 37 games. Connolly’s final season with the Capitals came during the 2018-19 season, during which he set career highs in both goals (22) and total points (46) in a season.
Good luck in Switzerland, Conno!
