The “first po-boys restaurant in Portugal” has already opened. Stay in Lisbon
We’re talking about a typical US sandwich, stuffed with shrimp, chicken, pork or veal stewed over low heat for six hours.
The restaurant world never stopped for brothers (45 years old) Miguel (50) and Pedro (50) Silva, who grew up watching or their father were considered in a series of businesses in the area. They even managed the restaurants they owned, namely “Duas Amazonas” and “O Pavão in Lisbon, both tell NiT the youngest.
A few years ago, however, on a trip we took to the United States (during which from the United States to the United States, Louisiana, Missis and, in particular, the city of New Orleans, in particular, the city of New Orleans, in the state of Alabama, another passion than the common ones) wants to create their own gastronomic project.
“We were in love with the variety of content of the po-boys and how fervent ‘supporters’ of this food are there. It is a very typical type of finger food, almost street food, but with superb quality of seafood – usually oysters or crab with moliça shrimp – and meats cooked at low temperatures for six hours”, he explains.
For a long time, the idea that it is an idea that is not developed, was nothing more than that, until a duo found themselves in very distant bets in the same way, or with the traditional, sometimes with the South American one.
This year, however, they felt it was time to take that step. On the 20th, the name of the representatives-boys is acclaimed for the “first month of August baptized by the star of the name of their product”: It is located at 108 Rua D. Estefânia and, on the menu, there are also nine crunchy pies (1, €95 to €2.35) with different flavors.
In this championship, China Town, with mushrooms, soy sprouts, onions, leeks, carrots and soy sauce; Slow Tennessee, with slow-cooking pork and farinheira; Alabama Chicken, with chicken, tomato, onion, red pepper and island cheese; and the California Dream, with shrimp, pineapple and mozzarella, for example, are some of the options. All are served in a crispy crust from end to end.
Like French Dips, that is, like “baguettes stuffed with pork or veal, also in slow cooking, and gratin cheese, which also added a sauce to dip them”, are also part of the space menu. Prices range from €7.5 to €9.2, which already includes a portion of regular French fries.
According to Miguel, this concept comes easily or meat “the gap between first-line products at affordable prices, because eating cooked for six hours or crispy shrimp, at these values, is not crunchy”.
To drink, there are mojitos, caipirinhas, sangrias made from sparkling wine and red fruits, lemonades, cold tea or natural orange juice, as well as beers and cocktails such as Agua de Rancho, which carries tequila, lime and Castelo water.
For now, “the reaction of the public has been excellent”, begins by guaranteeing the person in charge. “Even with the obvious lack of knowledge of the Po-Boys, curiosity ends in a strong satisfaction”, he adds.
The decoration of PoBrothers, with capacity for 70 people — 10 of them can stay on the terrace —. it was “in the restaurants inspired by the simplicity of the restaurants there Orlean that have photos when entering the inspired restaurants even the Americans that have photos that they have”.
