EC Red Bull Salzburg narrowly lost 3-2 after extra time to Ilves Tampere in the home game of the Champions Hockey League. In a high-quality game, Ali Wukovits initially gave the Red Bulls the lead. The guests turned the game around in the final third, Benjamin Nissner only shot the Red Bulls in the final minute in extra time. There the Finns had the accelerated breath and made the decision 16 seconds before the end.
For the second CHL group game this weekend, the Red Bulls had to play alongside the convalescent Paul Huber and Philipp Wimmer as well as Ty Loney injured. The game was characterized by high intensity from the opening face-off. Both teams pushed extremely hard, but were initially secure at the back. Peter Schneider had a notable chance from half-right (7th). In the unbelievably intensive overtime with several top chances for both sides, Joona ikonen ended a solo run with 16 seconds before the end with the goal for the 3:2 victory for the guests. The Red Bulls were narrowly defeated in a real top game and took at least a point with them.
The Red Bulls have thus completed their first two group games in the CHL. It continues next weekend with the first two return games in Norway (Friday) and Finland (Sunday).
