Moto2, GP Misano (San Marino) 2022: victory for Lopez, Vietti crashed, Arbolino 7th
First victory for the Spaniard Alonso Lopez and great success for Luca Boscoscuro’s team in the San Marino and Riviera di Rimini GP. A bewitched Sunday for the Italian drivers: Vietti (who started from pole) falls and moves away from the head of the World Championship, now led by Augusto Fernandez, third in Misano behind Canet. Also out Antonelli and Dalla Porta, 7th Arbolino
Vietti’s desperation, Luca Boscoscuro’s tears of joy: the two faces of a haunted Sunday for Italians in Moto2. Celestino, one of the favorites on the eve, and while he fell fighting for third place with Arenas, the Venetian team manager was visibly moved by the victory of his protégé Alonso Lopez, a thoroughbred horse, twenty-one from Madrid in his first full season in Moto2, on the track with the bike built in Veneto by his mentor. First success for Alonso, without smudges and uncertainties: he took the lead and kept him up to the finish line. Second trophy for Boscoscuro, four years after the first signed by Quartararo (We would have to reflect on the skills as a talent scout of the former Aprilia rider …). Instead, Vietti’s world championship hopes are wrecked, even though the Piedmontese is arithmetically still at stake. But before the Misano race the Mooney 4R46 team driver was delayed by 25 points, up to 42 with this second consecutive zero (in Austria he had fallen due to a displacement of the gearbox), the fifth in his journey in Moto2.
Arbolino 7th, Mattia Pasini close to the feat
of the best Italians remains Tony Arbolino, finished in seventh place after being overtaken by Acosta on the last lap. Even the personal adventure of Mattia Pasini (the Mugello GP returned to the races), crashed on the twelfth lap, while fighting with Ogura and Fernandez, in sixth place. A near-miss feat, but proof of a talent that resists age. Lopez meanwhile tender at a distance Canetthat with the second place overtakes Vietti in the standings, while Fernandez freed of Arenas, he climbed on the third step of the podium, returning to the top of the championship, thanks to the fifth place of Ogura. First and second survivor of the Italians at the finish line – Antonelli and Dalla Porta also fell, Zaccone was ranked 15th -, Tony Arbolino earns a position in the world and surpasses Roberts in fifth place.
