Giants celebrate clear victory at the test in Cologne
Leverkusen Coach Hansi Gnad from TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen sees an improvement in his ProA basketball players compared to the performance in Hagen – and is happy about a win in the test.
With 93:73 (39:41) the Giants won their test game at the RheinStars Cologne. “I wasn’t dissatisfied with that,” said coach Hansi Gnad after the success at the ProB league. “It wasn’t easy for us at all. In the end we put our advantages to good use on the field.” The team not only spent Friday evening together, but also Saturday afternoon. The ProA basketball players were invited to a box for the Bundesliga game between Bayer 04 and SC Freiburg – and there was an unexpected highlight.
“I heard Jason Kidd was in the VIP box,” Gnad said. The American, who won the NBA title together with Dirk Nowitzki in 2011 and is currently coaching the Dallas Mavericks, is in Germany for the European Basketball Championship and spent a few relaxing hours playing football. “Basketball players are often very relaxed among themselves – and he was too,” reported Gnad. “He came to us in the box.” Compared to the United States, Kidd is of course recognized less often in Germany. “I think he enjoys that, too.”
During the test in the Cologne training center, the Leverkusen team activated for a while to fight their way into the match, but offered a sovereign performance, especially after halftime – and improved compared to the 62:73 at ProA competitor Hagen. Matthew Meredith was still missing.
